Newstead badges pinned on success

A Newstead based business has secured a strong future for its workforce after buying out its strongest competitor.

Badge manufacturer, Badgemaster, has announced its acquisition of Akorn Badge Company Ltd allowing it to expand further.

Badgemaster is already the UK’s largest name badge manufacturer, and adds this as the most significant event yet to its ever growing list of achievements.

“It has always been our vision to be not just a name badge company, but THE name badge company and I am proud that we have achieved that,” said managing director John Bancroft, who was awarded the MBE recently for services to business in Nottinghamshire.

Key milestones in the company’s history since its humble beginnings in the back of a portable cabin in Hucknall in 1992, include in 2006 being granted the Royal Warrant by the Queen for supplying name badges to the staff of the royal households.

The acquisition of Scottish based Akorn will bring more jobs to the region as Badgemaster expands and is described by its owner as a ‘marriage made in heaven’.

“All work for the business will operate from the purpose built Badgemaster factory in Newstead,” added Mr Bancroft.

Jim Kent, Akorn Badge Company Ltd’s former managing director, has joined John and Vicky Bancroft on the board of directors. Jim McNiven, the former general manager of Akorn Badge Company Ltd, will also be joining Badgemaster’s senior management team.

Jim added: “I am delighted to be part of this exciting new organisation and looking forward to bringing unparalleled levels of service and quality to the organisation’s customers.”
