Newark and Sherwood Homes celebrates £1.2m cost savings

Newark and Sherwood Homes Ltd is celebrating making over £1.2m of cost efficiencies on behalf of the council in the financial year 2011-2012.

This means that over the last three years Newark and Sherwood Homes has delivered in total over £3m of efficiencies (£3.071 m) that have or will be reinvested into services for tenants and the local community.

The company that manages 5,500 homes on behalf of Newark and Sherwood District Council, is dedicated to delivering value for money services and, as part of this, encourages its staff to identify and implement cost savings on an ongoing basis.

Efficiencies made over the last 12 months which contributed to the whopping £1,263,910 saved, include administration efficiencies from moving to online systems, saving postage and stationery costs. It also includes the redistribution and reuse of existing furniture and equipment, rather than buying new, as well as carrying out recycling activities and renegotiating contracts with suppliers.

Over £112k of income was also generated from solar photovoltaic panels installed on council properties by Newark and Sherwood Homes, before the Feed in Tariff cut.

Suzanne Williamson, assistant director of Income and Resource Services for Newark and Sherwood Homes, said: “This excellent result demonstrates that value for money is a key focus for all our staff, who are committed to deliver excellent services to tenants, whilst maximising all of our available resources. We are delighted with what has been achieved here and have seen continuous improvement year on year. We are looking forward to identifying further areas where efficiencies can be made in the future.”
