New plans for two housing developments

Two new housing developments are being planned for Eastwood '“ with one set to provide homes for war veterans.

Number 83a Princess Street could be converted into four one-bedroom flats on behalf of charity Red Rose Housing.

The building is currently a four-bedroom home, but has been empty for about two years, according to a newly submitted planning application.

Peter Kandola, Red Rose head of housing and communities said: “Our intention is to house older veterans and their spouses who cannot afford to live in larger accommodation, or who need to downsize and require ground floor accommodation with wet rooms, in an area where there is access to shops and local services.

“It is important to understand the Ministry of Defence provides little support for veterans, nor do local authorities in terms of providing priority re housing or support.”

A new planning application has also been put forward for a development of 16 new homes in a £2 million regeneration project, which aims to help get people on the property ladder through shared ownership.

The development plans to convert the 0.75 acre site into a mix of one, two-bed and three- bedroom properties of a modern design, in a bid to help local families and first time buyers get on the property ladder.

Located on Walker Street, Eastwood, the site currently houses the Victory Club, an old working men’s club which has been disused for the last four years.

Hodgkinson Builders are looking to develop the site in partnership with Futures Housing Group.

This scheme is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency, which will be providing grant funding for the development of the scheme.

Ian Hodgkinson, managing director of Hodgkinson Builders, said: “These plans present an opportunity to help meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the local area and will provide high-quality housing for people requiring good quality housing in Eastwood.”
