New park to be built following pressure from residents and councillors

The park, on Cavendish Way, Clipstone, was promised to residents when they bought a property on the new-build development.As part of the proposals for the housing development, a play area was required to be erected.However, a dispute arose between Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey over whose responsibility the park was. Following recent discussions with the council, both house builders are now seeking to provide the play area as a matter of urgency. Paul Peacock, councillor for Newark and Sherwood has campaigned on residents’s behalf to be given a date for the park to be built. Mr Peacock said: “I am delighted that a deadline for completion of the Park has been set. It has been an extremely complex situation and there has been hours of work in the background to finalise the deadline. “I am really pleased that Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey are now getting on with it and I hope the local kids have a fabulous play park in time for Christmas.”Taylor Wimpey will commence clearing the site of the play area of building rubble that was left there in the coming weeks. Subject to this being complete by the end of this month Persimmon Homes will then prepare the land for the play area. The land will be seeded from October, which is the start of the next recognised planting season with the equipment being installed and available for use in December.Resident Paul Jones has also been campaigning for the park to be built so his daughter, Jaycie, 3, can have somewhere to play.He said: “I am relieved, the horror of it not being built has finally been lifted and we can carry on with our lives as planned.“Jaycie is so happy to see them working on it though and it will be part of her growing up.“Big thanks to Paul Peacock and Newark and Sherwood District Council for taking this seriously.”
