New network to help pupils at The Academy

A new network which allows former pupils support current students is being launched by The Academy in Ollerton.

The Whinney Lane Academy, formerly known as The Dukeries College, is one of more than 500 state schools and colleges across Britain which have registered with the national charity Future First to set up networks of former students, or alumni, who can support current students.

It’s also keen for former students to take part in celebrating the Academy’s 50th anniversary later this year as it looks back over achievements in the last half century and forward to the next.

Future First’s vision is that every state school or college should be supported by a thriving, engaged alumni community that helps it to do more for its students.

Jane Paling, Community and Extended Services Liaison Manager at the Academy said, “We signed up to Future First’s scheme straightaway.

“A network of past pupils with all their valuable experience will be vital in helping us to broaden current students’ jobs horizons and equip them for the world of work.”

Former students wishing to sign up to the Future First alumni scheme should contact [email protected] or sign up via the website www.futurefirst.org.uk and clicking on the “former students” link.
