New musical aims to battle town bullies

Brace Yourself has been written by former Brunts and Garibaldi students Georgina Rixon and Aaron Curcher, both 19.

The show, which is due to be performed at Mansfield Palace Theatre next month, aims to tackle bullying by promoting a message of kindness to others.

Funds raised will go to anti-bullying charities, and the show is being supported by Olympic champion swimmer Rebecca Adlington, who has herself experienced bullying through social media.

The musical has taken a year and a half to write, with words and lyrics by Georgina and music and orchestration by Aaron.

It will feature a host of talented local performers, including students from Brunts, Garibaldi, Meden and West Nottinghamshire College, organisers said.

The performance, which is set to take place from Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th October, will support the Beat Bullying charity, the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the Salvation Army.

Rebecca said: “We all face battles so spreading the message of being kind is something we can all take from.

“I was so pleased to hear about this new musical, which has been written in my home town and is championing the Beat Bullying cause.”
