A NEW working group has been set up to help regenerate the New Cross area of Sutton.
Last month, we reported that leaders of New Cross Community Church, which is on Downing Street, had launched a campaign to find a New Cross Champion to promote the area.
As part of the project, the New Cross Together group has now been set up following a meeting on 28th November.
The Rev Frank Crowther said: “The main outcome of the meeting was that there is an organisation now and the idea is to seek funding to enable us to employ a New Cross Champion.”
The group will meet in February, June and October and members of the public will be invited along to share their ideas.
There will also be executive meetings held throughout the year and these will also be open to the public.
The New Cross Champion will be responsible for a number of projects in the area including improving the appearance of streets and providing activities for parents and children.
Over the past 10 years, more than 200,000 people have used the facilities at New Cross Community Church, which hosts a range of activities such as concerts, films and lunch clubs and the idea behind the scheme is to build on these.
