New clubhouse will transform Mansfield tennis club

The club which has a 100-year history and 140 members, is hoping that the new club house will allow it to open up its services to the public and expand its usage.

Club chairman Sharon Cox Smith said : “We have wanted a new club house for some time as the existing Nissan huts we use now don’t give a good impression for anyone coming to the club.

“We have been awarded a grant from Nottinghamshire County Council’s local improvement scheme which we have managed to match fund.

“We will remain a private members club but we want to open things out to the public and will offer coaching sessions and pay to play sessions.

“Anyone will be able to book courts online and pay for it on our website.”

She said the clubhouse will also be bookable for scout groups and for meetings.

She added: “We will be running summer holiday camps for youngsters and in wet weather they will be able to take part in indoor activities like painting, when the new clubhouse is built.”

The application states that the building has been designed to reflect a traditional pavilion style building fitting for its purpose.

A single storey brick building is proposed which will provide much needed facilities for the club such as a kitchen tea making area, meeting and changing rooms.

The building will be a single storey low level with a pitched roof.

The existing fencing within the site will be extended around the building ensuring security. The club currently has three floodlit courts and as part of its expansion hopes to increase this to five.

The new clubhouse which will cost in the region of £100,000 is hoped to be built over the course of this winter and ready by next spring.
