Bike enthusiasts and teenagers have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the £60,000 track at Nabbs Lane park.

Jointly funded by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Improvement Scheme and Section 106 housing developer contributions from Ashfield District Council, the track was designed by pupils from Holgate School who came up with a range of equipment to suit different ages and abilities.

Coun Grice said that she hoped the track would encourage young people to get out into the fresh air.

She said: “What a fantastic facility for the young people of Hucknall and I’m sure it will be a popular location with children and teenagers for many years to come.”

As well as the new bike track, the project saw refurbishment work carried out on a teenage shelter, fencing and landscaping works.

The bike track will complement the new Multi-Use Games Area which was installed earlier in the year and other improvements which have included the creation of a new parking area for the football pitch, footpath resurfacing and new entrances.

Further improvements are planned including refurbishing the play area and planting, which would see the park benefit from more than £200,000 of investment.

Coun Baron said: “The pupils from Holgate School showed great enthusiasm in helping to design the track and it’s great seeing so many children having a wonderful time.”
