New attempt to turn old Mansfield toilet block into bistro

Revived plans have been submitted to transform a former toilet block in Mansfield town centre into a bistro cafe.

The boarded-up convenience on the corner of St John Street and West Gate has remained derelict since 2008, when it was closed by Mansfield District Council as part of cost-cutting measures.

An unsuccessful petition was launched by the public to keep it open.

The single-story flat-roof building was given planning application last year but work is yet to start.

The applicant has now submitted a change-of-use form to help move the project a step closer.

In a statement on behalf of the applicant, Simon Pugh, it reads: “The area will generally benefit by bringing into use a structure which will otherwise continue to deteriorate .”
