Nature reserves given a clean bill of health

Quarry Lane, in Mansfield, and The Carrs, in Warsop are the latest parks in the Mansfield district to have landed the accolade, which recognises the best green spaces across the country.

Awarded annually, the flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

It brings the number of parks with the award to seven after a further five retained their status, including Yeoman Hill, Carr Bank, Titchfield, Peafield and King George V.

The council’s portfolio holder for the environment, Coun Andrew Tristram, said: “This is fantastic news - these open spaces are our own magnificent seven!

“We are especially delighted that two of the council’s nature reserves have this year reached Green Flag status and this is something we will be aiming to build on in the future.

“The success in retaining these accreditations and earning two new ones, reflects the great efforts of the council’ team who have been working hard to ensure that these open spaces were at their best when the judges came to view them.

“I would also like to thank all the friends groups and volunteers who do so much in our parks.

“Their help is invaluable and we really appreciate everything they do.”
