Group chairman Shlomo Dowen said: “This presents us with a very special opportunity.

“It is not often that a community invests so demonstrably in their future by taking ownership of their local nature reserve - returning this land to community ownership 700 years after it was commandeered by King Edward II to make the original ponds as part of Clipstone Park.”

The appeal fund to purchase the site currently stands at around £12,000 towards the £15,000 needed.

And the group has now launched an appeal to raise the remaining £3,000 needed to buy Spa Pond, which is located off Clipstone Drive near Garibaldi Wood.
