Mystery death at Notts country park 'not suspicious'

Detectives investigating the discovery of a man's body at Gedling Country Park have confirmed his death is not being treated as suspicious as they continue their efforts to identify him.

Nottinghamshire Police were called just after 9.20am yesterday morning (Saturday 27 February 2016) following the discovery.

His death was initially being treated as unexplained but further inquiries have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Chief Inspector Phil Davies from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Officers have been working tirelessly to establish the circumstances surrounding this sad discovery and we are now focusing our efforts entirely on identifying the gentleman concerned and attempting to trace anyone who may know him.

"We are continuing to ask people to check on any friends, neighbours and relatives who they believe could have been in the county recently and to contact Nottinghamshire Police with any concerns - especially if they match the man's description and they have not been seen or heard from recently."

The man is described as of slim build, around 5ft 6ins tall with dark brown, greying hair. He is believed to be aged in his fifties, sixties or seventies.

He was discovered wearing a dark green thigh-length wax-coated jacket, a dark blue-green jumper, light grey fleece tracksuit bottoms and black work boots.

Nottinghamshire Police have prepared a file for the coroner.
