Mystery body in Notts country park identified

Police have now identified the body of a man found in Gedling Country Park.

Officers initially struggled to identify the man who was found on Saturday (February 27) morning, and sent out an appeal asking residents to 'check on their friends'

But detectives investigating the man’s body said they have now confirmed his identity.

A spokesperson said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are now in the process of contacting family members.

"Thank you to all media and members of the public who assisted with our appeals."

Police were called to the park just after 9.20am on Saturday 27 February 2016.

Gedling Borough Council also commented on the discovery and offered their support to the man's family.

Council Leader, Councillor John Clarke said: “We understand that the police have now identified the body of the man found at Gedling Country Park and the family have been informed. On behalf of everyone at Gedling Borough Council I would like to offer our condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”
