Music event raises thousands for busker Ray

Hundreds of big hearted music lovers raised more than £2,000 at a testimonial concert for a popular Mansfield busker who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

A whole community was shocked to learn Ray Froggatt, who has busked in the town centre for 30 years, has just months to live.

Friends and musicians rallied round to organise a fundraising music day at the Star inMansfield Woodhouse on Sunday.

More than a dozen top local bands took part in the event.

Ray’s friend Alan Walker, who helped to organise the event, said: “Ray was absolutely mobbed with people stuffing donations in his hand.

“He couldn’t believe it. He doesn’t realise what a popular figure he is.”
