Mum runs for Wish Upon A Star charity

Hucknall’s Mandy Sims also put in a terrific effort completing the London Marathon in four hours 24 mins in her own daughter’s name.

This challenge is just one of many efforts the Sims’ family are involved in during the year for the Wish Upon A Star charity. They made her own daughter, Abbie’s dream come true when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged seven.

“I managed to run all the way despite the heat,” said Mandy of Penhale Drive. “It was an amazing experience and I loved every second.

“The crowds were so supportive and their cheers really helped, that and the most inspirational people running alongside me.”

For a number of years the family have held a number of events to help boost funds for the national charity so far raising over £22,000.

“My legs are just starting to recover.”

“Once again we are set to embark on another year of gruelling challenges in the hope of raising enough money for a very sick child and their mum, dad or guardian to visit Santa at his Lapland home this Christmas.”

Sunday 24th August, Abbie’s Team will be walking the Monsal Trail in the Peak District, starting at Bakewell ending in Buxton and then returning. And on 7th September Mandy will pull on her running shoes again to take part in the Great North Run dressed as a ‘star’ - the logo of ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’.
