Mum-of-two smashed bottle over a woman's head in Worksop bar

Rochelle Faith Heslop, 22, of Queen Elizabeth Crescent, Rhodesia, pleaded guilty to the assault at the Cornerhouse, on Bridge Place, on November 1 last year.

Ruth Snodin, prosecuting, said: “The woman was struck on the back of the head with a bottle and showered with glass and liquid. She was left with a lump on the back of her head.”

Heslop accepted she had pulled the woman’s hair and hit her with the bottle after her victim had been involved in an altercation with one of her friends.

Heslop was placed on a Pubwatch list and banned from the bar. When she returned to the Cornerhouse on January 17 this year, she was recognised by door staff and ejected.

Heslop continued to argue with door staff in the street. Police were called and she was charged with being drunk and disorderly, which she also admitted.

Yvonne Wragg, mitigating, said: “It does seem very out of character when you see she has never been before the court before.”

The court heard that Heslop, of previous good character, worked full time in a warehouse in Worksop and had lived next door to her grandmother who died just before Christmas in 2014.

Her mother had looked after her children for a while because Heslop was unable to cope.

“She took it very hard,” said Mrs Wragg. “She is normally well-behaved and doesn’t go out. Until her grandmother died she was an impeccable parent.”

The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports until February 2. Heslop was ordered not to go to the Cornerhouse bar.
