Louise Maloney, 32, of Russell Street, Derby, admitted stealing the £16.70 cream from the store on Edison Rise, on July 2.

The court heard she received a 12-month conditional discharge for a similar offence in January, and had last been before the courts in 2005.

Melanie Hoffman, mitigating, said Maloney had been suffering from a health condition caused by Type 1 diabetes, and she needed the cream.

She said: “She bought some items for her children but made the foolish decision to put the cream in her bag.

“She is very remorseful for the way she has behaved.”

Maloney had been suffering financially since her partner left her, said Miss Hoffman.

Mansfield magistrates fined her £40 for breaching the conditional discharge and £120 for the theft.

She was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
