MP supports local shops campaign

Tomorrow, December 5, will celebrate the contribution of entrepreneurs and small firms.

Launched in 2013, Small Business Saturday brought a boost to local high streets across the country and in 2014, 16.5 million people visited a local independent store – 2.7m more than on Small Business Saturday in 2013.

Ms De Piero is a huge fan of the local high street and is backing Eastwood businesses to take full advantage of the campaign on a key shopping day in the year.

In the run up to Saturday Gloria stopped by the family run Jack Wood Butchers and chatted to owners Ian and Lorraine Wood about the importance of the initiative – before ordering turkey for this year’s Christmas dinner.

Ms De Piero said; “Small independent businesses like Jack Wood Butchers are the backbone of our high streets and they help make them the places we know and love – but they need our support. We should do all we can to thank them for the vital contribution they make to the local economy. I’m firmly behind this campaign and I would urge everyone who can to show Eastwood businesses how much we love them. Why order your turkey from a supermarket when you have a fantastic butcher right on your doorstep.”

Ian Wood of Jack Wood Butchers said: “It was lovely to see Gloria and we were impressed with how organised she was getting her turkey order in early. Please do support your local businesses.”

Jack Wood Butchers was started by Ian’s dad over 28 years ago. Christmas turkeys can be ordered up until December 23 and collected up to Christmas Eve.
