MP hits out at Government

MANSFIELD MP Alan Meale has attacked the Coalition Government for its uncaring approach towards hardworking families in Mansfield.

Changes in tax credits for couples with children mean that from April they will be required to work up to eight extra hours a week so they qualify for working tax credits worth £3,870.

“In Mansfield at least 275 couples with 545 children will be caught up simply because they want to work, rather than being idle,” he said. “What’s really insensitive about this is that most of the local people who are going to be affected work part-time in the retail and service sectors, where the jobs and times are being cut across the board while the economy is in recession.”
