MP goes back to nursery school
Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills was given a tour of Alfreton Nursery Teaching School by staff, governors and head teacher, Angela Stanton.
The visit followed on from Alfreton Nursery’s attendance at the All Party Parliament Group for nursery schools, and classes at Westminster.
Among the parts of the nursery visited, was the nursery’s Forest School site, where it has recently developed a pond which now has many creatures including tadpoles and two newts.
The pond is a new feature in the rapidly developing forest school on site at Alfreton.
Laura Dolby, Forest School co-ordinator, said: “We’re very keen to increase the biodiversity of the area and the children are really fascinated to see it develop.”
Alfreton Nursery School is enjoying the connection and outreach with their network of teaching schools and the onsite forest school area is a key proponent of their focus on bringing children in touch with nature.
Alfreton is a nursery school and national teaching school, which has been awarded ‘outstanding’ five times by Ofsted.
