A body matching the description of the missing person was located at about 11am by mountain rescue volunteers.

The body has not yet been formally identified, but the police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

Twenty members of the rescue team, supported by a specialist search dog took part in the operation to search for the Wirksworth man.

A team spokesman said: “It’s very sad that there was not a positive outcome to the search. We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person at this most difficult time.”
