Derbyshire police called in help from Derby mountain rescue teams around 5am on Tuesday to search for 42-year-old man Trevor Smith, also known as Trevor Hancock, who had not been seen since Monday night.
Concern for Emmerdale actor Mr Smith’s safety had been raised by police, who called on the specialist services of mountain rescue to search disused quarries and rural areas in the local vicinity.
A body matching the description of the missing person was located at about 11am by mountain rescue volunteers.
The body has not yet been formally identified, but the police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.
Twenty members of the rescue team, supported by a specialist search dog took part in the operation to search for the Wirksworth man.
A team spokesman said: “It’s very sad that there was not a positive outcome to the search. We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person at this most difficult time.”
