Nottinghamshire County Council said water-main work was due to be completed before heavy traffic hit the roads this morning, but the works were delayed.

Heath Phillips, Principal Co-ordination Officer for Via East Midlands, which is managing highways services on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "The works in Chesterfield Road North are being carried out by Severn Trent Water.

"The company was aiming to finish before peak traffic hours this morning to avoid congestion but their roadworks have unfortunately overrun and we expect they will be completed as soon as possible today."
