More than 100 new homes are set to be built on the prime, former site of one of Mansfield’s longest-established companies.
Mansfield Sand manufactured bricks for 90 years at the Sandhurst Avenue site, which also housed a sand quarry, in the highly sought-after Berry Hill area of the town.
Now the land is up for sale after the firm was granted outline planning permission by Mansfield District Council for 107 traditional, new-build houses. Mansfield Sand has appointed commercial property agency, Innes England, to market the 8.15-acre site and woo potential developers.
“This land offers a hugely important opportunity for Mansfield, and we are delighted to be bringing the site to market,” said Laura Jardine, surveyor at Innes England.
“The area is particularly attractive to developers as it offers competitive land prices, making it the ideal location for growth and new homes.
“The site overlooks public green space and, given its close proximity to Mansfield town centre, and short distance from Nottingham, it is certain to be popular with families and commuters alike. It is close to the award-winning West Notts College too.
“The site is perfect for residential development thanks to its excellent public transport links, including regular bus services and the town’s train station close by. Mansfield is an area that is going from strength to strength and becoming more appealing for developers and business owners alike.”
Mansfield Sand has been quarrying sand in the town for nearly 200 years and has a lofty reputation as a specialist supplier of materials for the construction and maintenance of top-class sports and landscape surfaces. Its clients include professional football clubs, golf clubs and Southwell Racecourse.
Another of its former sites, Ratcher Quarry, has been identified by Mansfield District Council as a potential site for new housing and is currently the subject of a restoration project. The company’s main two production bases are now at the Crown Farm Industrial Estate at Mansfield and Two Oaks Quarry on Coxmoor Road, Sutton.
