More than 50 jobs to be created as Mansfield gets a 63 bedroom Travelodge

The Travelodge hotel would create 21 jobs and the retail and restaurant 31 full time equivalent jobs.

The application went before Mansfield District Council planning committee on Monday (July 30).

It is the fourth application to build an hotel in the Mansfield area recently.

The application site is the existing Gala Bingo Club which fronts onto Albert Street, and lies between St Peters Way to the south east and Midworth Street to the northwest. The site comprises the existing Gala Bingo building, and a car parking area to the rear, within which there is a small detached brick building.

It seeks planning permission for a 63 bedroom hotel that would be branded Travelodge.

The proposed hotel building would be positioned on the southern part of the site, and would join onto the adjacent property 43 Albert Street and extend round the corner facing onto St Peters Way as well.

It would be four storeys high with bedrooms located on the upper three floors.

The hotel entrance and ancillary facilities would be located on the ground floor, where there would also be A1 retail and A3 restaurant uses. The A1 / A3 uses would be operated independently form the hotel.

The hotel would be of a contemporary design with a flat roof, and faced largely in brick, with cladding to part of the upper floors on the south east and northwest facing elevations.

The hotel entrance would face onto the car park which would be located on the northern part of the site. The car park would provide 81 spaces, which would be shared between the hotel and the A1 / A3 uses. The small brick building currently within the conservation area would be demolished.

Vehicular access would be retained from Gilcroft Street. The site frontage onto Midworth Street would be opened up to provide a pedestrian route into the site opposite the end of Dame Flogan Street, and an area of landscaping.
