Mini Matt meets the stars

A mini Doctor Who from Sutton took to the celebrity limelight like a duck to water when he was invited to a movie premiere.

George Buckland, aged 13, took the internet by storm when he became a national ambassador for a children’s charity after his hard work fundraising as a mini Matt Smith, dressing as the famous Doctor Who actor.

And he was invited to the UK premiere of the film Finding Dory, in London’s Leicester Square.

George mingled with stars including Mansfield swimming star Rebecca Adlington, actor Dominic West and talk show host Ellen Degeneres, who voices Dory in the animated film, as he posed for the assembled photographers at the premiere.

George also appears at Comic Con events across the country, posing for pictures and signing autographs while dressed as the 11th incarnation of the long-running TV character.

The Sutton Community Academy pupil said the last year has been incredibly busy.

George said: “I have enjoyed every second of it.

“It’s kind of strange when I go somewhere and people know my name and who I am – I haven’t got used to that yet.”

The youngster first began his venture to stardom about 12 months ago, when he dressed as the Doctor at a Comic Con event.

He has since gone on to interview the likes of Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Tom Baker – all of whom have played the Doctor over the years – with the interviews aired on his Youtube channel.

George was invited to the premiere by Disney Studios, because he is content managed by Disney-owned Maker Studios.

His channel has more than 80,000 subscribers from all over the world and he is recognised everywhere he goes, even to the supermarket.

He uses his appearances to raise money for Dreams Come True, a charity which helps children with life-limiting conditions have a dream come true.

George has autism and other physical disabilities.

However, he does not let these define him and likes to portray himself in a positive ‘can do’ approach to his media work.

The aspiring actor, who has many offers in the pipeline, says he wants the world to see disabled people as equals and aims to promote this through his videos.
