Military honour for reservist

A naval reservist from Ravenshead has taken part in The Royal Military Tattoo in Edinburgh for the first time this summer.

Warrant Officer Sean Jones, from HMS Sherwood, the East Midlands only Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) unit, took part in strict ceremonial training and rehearsed alongside reserves from around the country in the prestigious display performed yearly at Edinburgh Castle.

He said: “Overall we trained for five weeks to present the highest standard military guard that would be well-received by the thousands of visitors to Edinburgh Castle and the millions watching on television at home.

“This is only the second time ever that the RNR have been involved in this event so it was an honour for me to take a central role.

“We used HMS Sherwood’s base in Nottingham as a central point for training and in Edinburgh a week prior to the event commencing.”

The Royal Military Tattoo showcases the talents of a variety of musicians and performers from around the world.

HMS Sherwood is based at Foresters House, Chilwell, Nottingham and is currently recruiting. To find out more about the unit contact 0115 929 6373 or email [email protected]
