A project for older men to develop practical skills and make new friends could be in danger of closing if more new members are not found.

The Blidworth Men in Sheds workshop offers retired men an outlet for their creativity and a sense of purposefulness that a workplace once gave them.

For the past four years Men in Sheds has been a hive of activity for older men to do craftwork, share their knowledge and generally put the world to rights over a cup of tea.

But a decline in membership could see it losing its funding.

Co-ordinator Chris Riley said:”We are seeing less members this year due to some of them suffering illnesses and other Shed projects opening in the area.

“We had around 40-5- members last year which has fallen to about 36.

“Unfortunately with AGE UK trustees coming to review the project in September the reduced numbers could lead to the project coming to an end.”

“It would be such a shame to lose the Blidworth Men In Sheds project and all that it has and continues to offer.”

Members come for a wide variety of backgrounds ranging from highly skilled to those with little or no experience.

Chris added: “Activities mainly focus on woodwork, but its anything you can imagine.”

The products made are sold to support the project, which is run by Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
