Two men who were arrested this week on suspicion of killing a dog are now being investigated for arson.
The men – a 20–year–old of no fixed address and a 21–year–old of Bolsover – were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage on Monday after officers discovered the body of a dog at a property in Shuttlewood, Bolsover, following numerous complaints from members of the public.
A police spokesman has now revealed the case has been escalated to an arson investigation with the potential of endangering life as it is believed that after killing the dog, the men may have set a fire in the property while other people were still inside.
The police have stated they are currently awaiting results of a post mortem investigation into the death of the animal, however it appears the dog was ‘treated cruelly’.
The two men have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Anyone with information about the dog’s death or treatment is asked to call 101 quoting incident ‘15’ of November 10.
