Memorial for tragic crash mum Sarah

Sarah Redfern died last year after she was hit by a car as she walked home from a night out.

Now her pals and family are planning a memorial to her at the Pop Inn at Mansfield which was Sarah’s favourite pub.

Organiser Megan Blair said: Sarah was a beautiful person inside and out with a loving family, many friends and a son who she was devoted to, what happened on the 2nd August turned her family’s lives upside down and affected so many people who all loved Sarah dearly.

“Thirty two years is no age to be taken away especially when she had so much and so many people to live for.

“And the manner in which she was taken makes it so much harder to come to terms with, as it wasn’t an accident or an act of nature, it was something that could have been avoided.

“We wanted to create something to give her the memorial she deserves. It could be a plaque, a bench or even a water feature if we raise enough money.

“We are asking for anyone who can donate prizes or their services in any way to please do so as it is all for a good cause and would be much appreciated.

“Anyone with any ideas or are willing to help in anyway please get in touch as the more people we get on board the better.”

A fun day is being held on Saturday August 29 at the Pop Inn on Newgate Lane with bouncy castles candy floss machine and tombola, along with sponsorship events to be announced.

The group of friends are also setting up a petition calling for the sentence for causing death by dangerous driving to be increased.

James Stafford was drunk when he hit Sarah Redfern and two others .

Stafford, who was in the car with five other people carried on driving and left the young mum lying in the road from fatal injuries.

Judge Michael Stokes gave Stafford the nine years for causing her death by dangerous driving on Haddon Road, a sentence that many have criticised.
