MELANIE WILSON: Tributes go out to young woman who was 'always in the limelight'

Tributes go out to the 'fun-loving', 'caring' young woman who was found dead on Thursday, October 3. Police confirmed her identity yesterday, Sunday, November 6.

Melanie's best friend, Emma Walker, a mum-of-two, described her 'soul mate' who was always there and always held the limelight.

Emma, 28, said: "She was so funny and we always laughed about stupid things. She had the limelight in every room, and always had everybody's attention.

"I'd describe her as caring. Mel was always there for me, with whatever I've been through, she' always picked me up. We've laughed together, and cried together we were soul mates.

Melanie was incredibly close to Emma's two young boys, Tyler, nine, and Lucan, five, who knew her as 'Aunty Mel'.

Emma added: “She’s like their dad – she’s always there for Christmas and Halloween. She was supposed to be dressing up and going trick or treating with them."

"I told them that Melanie has gone to sleep and she's in the clouds. Lucan said 'Don't cry mummy, because well see her in our dreams.

A community search for the young woman built up traction on Tuesday, November 1 after The Daily Dose Lads, a trio of Sutton-based Facebook personalities, put their support behind the appeal. Their videos asking for more volunteers were viewed by thousands, and inspiring more people to join the hunt - which eventually included around 300 people.

They said: "We would just like to thank each and every single person that helped in the search for Melanie. The Daily Dose Lads are so happy we could help by spreading the word through social media, unfortunately it wasn't the outcome we all hoped for but we are extremely grateful for everyone's efforts in searching for Melanie. Thank you."

Kirsty Hannah, who led the week-long search for Melanie, paid tribute to the young women.

The mum, 30, said: "Even though I've never met Melanie I've been very emotional. We've heard all about her from friends and family and you feel like you get to know a person.

"People have said she was a fun-loving person, she was funny, kind - I'm gutted that I'll never have a chance to meet her - I would have adored her."

Kirsty started the Where There's Hope group to conduct searches and support young people with mental health issues after Amber Peat went missing last year. She said she was amazed at hoe many people came out to look for Melanie.

"We're so grateful to everyone that helped with the search," she added. "My condolences go out to her friends and her family at this sad time. We're going to do what we can to help them."

Kirsty and supporters are joining forces with the Rose & Crown pub in Stoneyford Road to put on a charity football match followed by a Funday at the pub.

Melanie is originally from Mansfield and moved to Sutton two years ago and has been living in council accommodation. She went to Brunt's Academy

She had been experiencing low moods but friends said her well-being was improving after she took part time voluntary work.

Melanie' father, David Wilson is not available for comment but is said to be overwhelmed' by the support form the community, first form the search and now as fundraisers are hoping to help the family with funeral costs.
