Meeting to oppose 201 home plans

A meeting of the planning committee at Ashfield District Council on December 17 is expected to decide whether to give the green light to a controversial 201 home development at Sutton.

Residents have been invited to a public meeting to be held on Wednesday December 9 at Mansfield Hosiery Mills at 7pm to discuss any concerns about the proposals for green land off Ashland Road.

More than 1,500 residents have written objections to the proposal by David Wilson Homes (East Midlands) for a residential development of 201 dwellings, comprising of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom units, creation of vehicular access, pedestrian links, public open space, car parking, landscaping and drainage.

They have concerns about infrastructure, space in local schools, medical provision and traffic and have objections on environmental grounds.

This week former Sutton West Councillor Ramon Buttery was backing residents who are opposing the development.

Mr Buttery said: “Everybody around here is objecting to it.

“Another 200 houses means about 400 more cars and more children.

“I have asked the developers where the new school was in the plans.

Resident Malcolm Hull added; “I want people to come and stand up and be heard.

“We want as many people as possible to attend the planning meeting.”

Councillors have also objected to the plans.

Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero has raised and delivered objections on behalf of residents who are against the plans.
