Mayor praises apprentices at graduation

Executive Mayor of Mansfield Kate Allsop has praised the achievements of apprentices at a graduation ceremony.

The mayor was at the ceremony, which was sponsored by Mansfield District Council, at Nottingham’s Albert Hall last week during Apprenticeship Week.

She presented graduation certificates to a number of apprentices, including some who had completed their training with Mansfield District Council. The council has 11 apprentices working for it at the moment in a variety of roles, including administration, construction and communications.

Mayor Allsop said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic option for young people looking to get on the employment ladder at the same time as acquiring new skills and training. The apprentices at Mansfield have also made an invaluable contribution to the services provided by the council and it has been a great way to bring in young people with a fresh perspective on the world.”

The event was organised by Nottinghamshire Training Network and the East Midlands further education body Emfec. About 140 apprentices graduated having worked for a variety of employers, including local authorities, schools and the NHS.
