May madness at Bolsover Castle

Saddle up for a great day out, as knights on horseback gallop in to Bolsover Castle for English Heritage’s Medieval Month of May.

The first weekend of the Medieval Month of May at Bolsover Castle runs from Saturday 5th to bank holiday Monday 7th May. The Red knight from the South, the Green knight from the west and their trusty squires will be showing off their tournament skills. Watch as the knights are armed for the tournament, see them practice their manoeuvres on horseback and witness displays of archery and foot combat. Children can follow their own quest to become a champion knight and get caught up in the Jester’s foolish antics.

Then each weekend in May visitors can meet a different knight as they demonstrate their tournament skills on horseback and practice their medieval combat with their faithful squire. There will also be the chance each weekend for children to follow their own quest to become a knight. All the knights return for the Grand Medieval Joust on 26th and 27th May.

Lucy Hutchings, English Heritage events manager, said, “May is an ideal opportunity to make the most of English Heritage membership and come back each weekend to meet the four teams of knights and squires and choose your champion knight! Then cheer for your champion when all four teams return to Bolsover Castle to do battle in the spectacular Grand Medieval Joust on the 26th & 27th May.”
