Masked ram raiders smash through Mansfield Wilkinson store

Masked ram raiders have targeted a town centre shop in Mansfield.

The Wilkinson store was hit by masked raiders this morning, who smashed a white 4x4 vehicle through the window of the Clumber Street store at around 4am causing extensive damage.

They attempted to take an ATM machine within the store but abandoned it around 50 yards from the shop.

The three men then fled along Clumber Street and onto Toothill Lane. The vehicle was then abandoned on James Murray Mews and discovered some time later.

Reports are unconfirmed that night-shift staff, working in the shop at the time of the raid, gave chase to the raiders causing them to drop the ATM machine.

One raider was described as being white, 5 ft 7” wearing a white scarf or bandana over his face, a dark baseball cap and a dark-coloured puffa jacket.

The second man was said to have been wearing dark clothing. There has been no description of the third man who remained in the vehicle during the raid.

Detective Inspector Dave Marsh, from Mansfield South CID, said: “This is the sort of brazen act that causes a great deal of damage and disruption not only for the business, but for the town centre and the people who use it.

“Detectives are already following some positive leads but if you know who did this get in touch with us. It is not acceptable that the residents of Mansfield should feel that their town is a target for mindless thieves.”

Anyone who saw anything or who had any information about the burglary should contact police on 101.
