Martin gears up for ‘day at wacky races’

A former Sutton man who has set himself a target of completing 40 charity challenges before he turns 40 later this year has revealed his latest challenge.

Martin Beresford is aiming to raise £10,000 to split between the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Indee Rose Trust, a charity for children diagnosed with brain or spinal tumours.

He has friends from the Nottingham and Sutton areas who have been affected by these conditions and they have inspired him to take part in the year-long challenge.

Before he turns 40 in November, Martin will have completed 20 endurance events - such as marathons, bike rides and obstacle courses - and 20 fun-themed events such as walks and charity gigs.

His latest fundraiser will be a Wacky Races Day, set to take place from 11am - 6pm on Saturday 2nd August at the Forest Town Welfare, in Clipstone Road West.

The day has been planned as a family-friendly event, and will include stalls, a bouncy castle, face painting, children’s activities and live bands, Martin said.

“It would be great if local businesses could put forward a team or become involved in the day in raising as much as possible,” he said.

Since Martin started his charity challenge, he has completed events including the London Marathon and last month’s Clumber Park Half-marathon.

To enter a team in the Wacky Race event, contact Martin on 07887840989. Team entry is £20 and cash prizes will depend on the number of teams entering.
