Mark Spencer’s MP column: Bringing jobs opportunities to Sherwood is top priority

There are few things that are more important to a Member of Parliament than tackling unemployment.

Job creation is always a top priority to the Government and in particular getting our young people into work.

The Work Program, Apprenticeships and other forms of training are helping people to get back into work and unemployment continues to fall nationally.

Sherwood has some fantastic businesses creating fantastic job opportunities for our people and thanks to the recovering economy, business confidence is up and job creation high on the agenda.

More people are in employment now than at any other point in our history but we still need to help those unemployed people in the community connect with employers.

This is why I want to give my constituents the best possible chance to find work, change jobs or simply network with employers.

I have organised a Jobs Fair which will be held at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall on 11th October 2013. In attendance will be dozens of top employers from all over the region. Anyone living in the Sherwood Constituency is welcome and admission is free, it will be a fantastic opportunity to meet employers and take that step up towards finding your ideal job. I will also visit a Co-Op branch in my Constituency later on this week to support a workshop for young people providing them with the experience needed to pursue a career in the retail industry. It is always encouraging when businesses are willing to invest in the futures of local people, in particular young people. It can be very tough as a young person starting out in the world of work, but this Government has made work pay by lifting the lowest paid people in our society out of income tax altogether.

I am dedicated to bringing job opportunities to the people of Sherwood, because after all I work for you!
