Marathon runner thanks to cancer group

Opportunity has knocked for a 27-year-old Bulwell woman who received a letter of acceptance to run in the London Marathon on the same day that her father was given the all-clear from Prostate Cancer.

Siobhan Taylor, of Northolme Avenue, who is now living in London while working for ITV as a researcher for the popular culinary programme “ Come Dine With Me”, is in training for her marathon challenge.

“When my dad Haydn was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013, both my mum Kathryn and I were devastated and feared the worst.

“Much to our relief however he was given the best possible treatment at the City Hospital where the fantastic team of doctors and nurses worked wonders to help his recovery. said Siobhan.

“Mum and I can’t thank the medical professionals enough and as a way of giving something back to those who support cancer patients I have decided to run the London Marathon to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK as well as Macmillan Cancer Support.

Siobhan, who was educated at Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School and Trinity School before graduating at Hull University, has previously taken part in the British 10K run in 2013 as well as in the Race For Life 5K event.

No stranger to a challenge Siobhan is regarded as a leading light in amateur theatre where she has played leading roles in productions with the NOWMADS (Nottingham West Music and Drama Society) as well as teaming up with two fellow singers and musicians to form a trio known as The Intros which have made their marks at local venues.

“Running in the London Marathon is a far cry from anything that I have done before but I feel privileged to be chosen as one of the 35,000 runners taking part and will do my utmost to complete my “ mission impossible “ for my charities”. she said.

By her efforts Siobhan is hoping to raise in excess of £1,000 which will be shared between Macmillan and Prostate Cancer UK. Anyone wishing to help Siobhan’s London Marathon efforts should go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/siobhantaylor or phone 07960422462
