Alan Dawson is working with Clipstone Colliery Regeneration Group Ltd to produce drama inspired by the stories from the North Nottinghamshire former mining communities, such as Clipstone and Ladybrook and other villages based around Mansfield.

Mr Dawson, the artistic director of Under the Headstocks Drama Group said: " I see stories as being the cement that holds communities together and would like to produce a play that presents the former coal mining communities in a positive light."

Mr Dawson said: "The aim is to write and perform for local audiences, drama which is inspired by stories of events and characters -past, present and future - from the North Nottinghamshire former coalfield villages, which are centred around Mansfield - I worked at Clipstone Colliery 1977-93. I am endeavouring to directly collect stories at two events which are happening in the summer. I am also looking to include local people in the performance – where they will get the opportunity to work alongside Under the Headstocks actors."

The writer, who grew up on Garibaldi Estate and worked at Clipstone Colliery until the closure of 1993, is interested in all stories, particularly those about local characters or events.

Under the Headstocks, who are based at the Black Bull, Woodhouse Road, will be performing the piece in February 2019. There are opportunities for local people to join the UTH actors and be part of the performances.

Mr Dawson will be looking for stories at the following dates and times:
