Mansfield Woodhouse students spoilt for choice after new play equipment is revealed

Children are loving new playground equipment which was unveiled during a red, white and blue day to celebrate the Royal wedding.

St Edmunds Church of England Primary School in Mansfield Woodhouse has added four new features to its play area, including a pirate ship, climbing wall, adventure playground and a new canopy. This cost the school, which has 266, students £35,000. It was unveiled during an opening by Kate Allsop, Mayor of Mansfield, on Monday, May 21. The day also celebrated the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Nadeem Shah, executive head at the school said £4,000 of the cost was from a Tesco’s ‘bag for life’ grant. He said: “It has created a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn outdoors in all weather.“School isn’t all about learning just in a classroom. The new equipment gives the children an opportunity to learn motor skills and take risks on the equipment we have got them all.” Sarah Clarke, head of school said ‘the children love coming to school’. One student Elias Newsome, 11 form Mansfield Woodhouse said: “The equipment is great it has been a lot more fun on breaks.”Mia Peacock, 11 also from Mansfield Woodhouse said: “There is a lot more to do now and we don’t crowd around the same thing.”Lucy Marshall, 11 from Mansfield said: “There is more choice now - every day, you can do something else.”
