Mansfield Walking football team gets a defibrillator thanks to building society

Mansfield Senior Reds Walking Football Club took delivery of their new potentially life-saving device this week thanks to the generosity of Mansfield Building Society.

The club has more than 60 members who keep fit and healthy without the intensity of a traditional football match,- the oldest member of the team is 76.

Mananger Silvano Taylor said: “The club allows members to enjoy exercise, no matter what their fitness level in a relaxed and social environment.

We are very grateful to Mansfield Building Society for the portable defibrillator.

“With many of the players over the age of 50, there is a greater need to ensure our team can compete safely, and enjoy the game knowing that they have the appropriate safeguards available should they need them.”

Many of the venues where the club competes do not have a defibrillator and the club has had a couple of incidents over the past few years, highlighting the need to have one to hand at matches. The Society gifted the Reds a £1,0000 machine to take on their travels.
