Mansfield teen joins Coal Authority on apprenticeship scheme

Jennifer Sissons (18) has started work in its Customer Service Centre and is being trained in how to provide mining reports, which help people check if coal mining activity affects their property.

She is also helping the Customer Service Centre deal with all the incoming telephone calls, emails and post.

Jennifer said: “I’ve felt really welcome since starting and things are going really well. I’m getting the chance to get involved in lots of things, and I hope to do more training and get some good experience.

“I’m still learning and finding my way around, but I’ve not got lost yet.”

Rachel Kennedy, HR Projects Manager at the Coal Authority, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jennifer as the first apprentice on our new scheme. We’ll be supporting Jennifer and Jacob to develop the knowledge and skills they need for their future careers.

“Our aim is to offer more opportunities for local young people in the future and support them to develop their careers. Our work in protecting the public and the environment also benefits from their talent and the fresh ideas they bring, helping us to continue to innovate and develop.”
