Mansfield star Becky Adlington in marriage split

Mansfield swimming star Rebecca Adlington has announced she has split from her husband after 18 months of marriage.

The double Olympic champion married former swimmer Harry Need in Venice in 2014. The couple have a nine-month-old daughter Summer.

However, posting on Rebecca’s website today, the couple, said: “It’s after much thought and sadness that we confirm our separation.

“It is on amicable terms and we still remain close friends.

“We move forward with respect for one another and our focus and commitment is on parenting our gorgeous daughter Summer.

“This will be our only comment on this private matter.”

The former Brunts Academy pupil was made an OBE for services to swimming in 2009, before retiring from the sport three years ago.

Mansfield’s Sherwood Swimming Baths, where she began swimming as a child, was renamed the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre when it reopened after refurbishment in January 2010.
