Brian Dykes, Chairman of the Mansfield RNA, has been awarded the prestigious Life Membership of the national Royal Naval Association as a Mark of Esteem and Appreciation of outstanding service, which is the most significant honour that can bestowed. The unexpected honour and presentation came as a complete surprise during the September meeting but also coincided with the equally sad and surprising news that our President: Surg Cdr W [Bill] McNicholl had died earlier this month.

During an extraordinary meeting, our honoured Chairman Brian Dykes was unaminously voted to succeed the late President and gratefully accepted this double honour, agreeing to carry out both important positions.
