Mansfield pair jailed after burgling a home and committing fraud

Lee Goody, 31, of Wainwright Avenue, Mansfield, and Dean Graves, 44, of Chesterfield Road North, Mansfield, were locked up after appearing at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday June, 26, 2018) for sentencing.

The court heard that the burglary took place at a property in Hollingwell Drive.

The victim left his car on his driveway before going to work in his wife’s car at 8.30pm on May 5, 2018.

At about 7.30am the next day he spoke to his wife who told him his car was gone. The keys had been taken from his house during the night.

The man had left two wallets in his car containing bank cards and a small amount of cash.

He later received messages from his bank regarding contactless payments for goods on his stolen cards.

The court also heard that the keys to another car parked at the address had been taken but this vehicle hadn’t been moved.

CCTV showed two men arriving at the address just after 4am on May 6.

By 4.41am they were both in the kitchen. Graves had a small knife with him.

The stolen vehicle was caught on CCTV arriving at a store in Sutto just before 5.15am.

Goody and Graves were seen entering the store and using the stolen bank cards to buy goods.

They were both arrested by officers at a property in Mansfield later that morning after the stolen vehicle was found nearby. Inside the property officers found the keys to the stolen car and the other vehicle left on the driveway of the house in Hollingwell Drive as well as the victim’s stolen bank cards.

Graves was jailed for four years for the burglary. He received concurrent sentences for the car theft, fraud and being in possession of the knife.

Goody was jailed for three years for the burglary. He received concurrent sentences for theft of the car and frauds with the card. One month was added after a community order was revoked. 　

Speaking after their sentencing DI Steve Wragg said: "We hope these sentences provide some reassurance to the community that we take these offences seriously and will do all we can to see offenders brought to justice.

"Burglary is such an invasive and impactful crime, leaving victims feeling unsafe in their own homes, that we’ve made tackling it a priority.

"We now have two new dedicated police teams which are focusing their efforts on tackling and reducing burglary in the city and county.

"We want to reassure the people of Nottinghamshire that we will continue to pursue those committing burglaries and remain committed to catching those responsible and bringing them to justice."
