Mansfield mum livid after burglars rip front door from its frame

A Mansfield mum was left terrified after burglars broke into her house, leaving it unscured for a whole night despite Nottinghamshire Police being called.

The distressed mum-of-two told of her horror to return home in Mansfield, after her house had been left unsecured for hours.

Candice, who asked not to reveal her surname, is still fuming over the incident as she says Police took hours to investigate and refused to send officers upon being called as they did not believe a burglary had taken place.

She said: “I went out on Friday night and came back on Saturday afternoon to no front door on my house.”

While she was away from the house, a neighbour called the police when they discovered the door missing at around 4am.

“I rang the police. The house was upside down - all my stuff was everywhere.

“It was like coming back to a totally different house.

“I was so shocked, I was scared. “I won’t stay in the house on my own knowing someone has been through my things. I’ve had my brother with me ever since.

But her five-year-old boy was the real victim of the alleged burglary, added the worried mum, as the only thing stolen was his laptop: “My son is too scared to go to the toilet because he knows that someone has been in the house. He won’t go upstairs and he won’t sleep on his own.”

“I was quite mad that nobody came out because. Meanwhile my house was left open to anyone. I’m surprised I came back to my TV still being there.”

Bizarrely Candice claims that aside from stealing her son’s computer, burglars also took the opportunity to run a bath before leaving the house.

The mum put in a formal complaint with Nottinghamshire Police, who told us they did not visit the property as reports did not specify a burglary had taken place.

A spokesman said: “This incident was reported to us initially as an insecure premises but there was no indication that an offence had been committed or offenders at the scene.

“Attempts were made to contact the occupants of the property by phone, but there was no response.

“Our morning shift was initially tasked to attend the property, but were committed with other incidents throughout the morning.

“We received a call from one of the occupants at 12.51pm on Saturday 16 to report a burglary at the premises and our officers attended within the hour.”
