Mansfield's MP Ben Bradley has resigned from his role as Vice Chairman of the Conservative party over the government's stance on Brexit.

The government made agreements over Brexit proposals at Chequers last week, but these led to the high-profile resignations of Boris Johnson and David Davis.

Mr Bradley cited the views of Mansfield constituents as a motivator when he announced his resignation letter.

He said: “I fear that this agreement at Chequers damages opportunities; that being tied to EU regulations, and the EU tying our hands when seeking to make new trade arrangements, will be the worst of all words if we do not deliver Brexit in spirit.

“As MP for Mansfield I believe that the almost three quarters of people who voted leave did so wanting to give Britain control of its own destiny, its borders and its laws.

“I owe it to my constituents to raise my concerns and speak freely about this policy, and to fulfil the promise I made to them in the 2017 election to make Mansfield’s voice heard.”

Ben Bradley will now return to the back benches of parliament, and will still act as MP for Mansfield.
