Mansfield's MP Ben Bradley has said that he feels optimistic that there will be a solution for Berry Hill Park, after it was revealed this week that the park will be closing this month due to the lack of finances.

The Trustees of Berry Hill park officially announced that the park will be closing this month due to the lack of finances available to meet its current debts, and to meet its ongoing liabilities and maintenance repair costs.

Mansfield District Council, CISWO and the Trustees will meet on the 22nd to broker arrangements for the Council to take on the management of the park as Corporate Trustees, which is potentially costly for the Council but should be able to keep the park open and not require housing to be built.

"That's good news for everyone.

"I feel that all parties are willing to discuss that kind of arrangement (at least all have told me that they are) but we all know that of course the devil will be in the detail.

"I will continue to speak with all parties and monitor this closely to ensure that in the short term the park can be kept open.

"I have secured funding in the Government's Budget specifically for coalfield sports facilities that can potentially help in the medium term with the financial security and improvements to the park once it's back on a stable footing"
