Mansfield mayor fights plans to move town post office
Post Office has announced plans to move the branch from Church Street into WHSmith on West Gate.
However, Kate Allsop, district mayor, has hit out at the plans, fearing it could damage trade in the area.

“The current location of the post office helps to maintain footfall in this area and supports those local retailers.”
Mrs Allsop has urged Post Office to justify its business case and suggests the move will make the service less accessible and visible on the high street.
She also has concerns over the future of the prominent building in the centre of the town’s heritage area.

A public consultation on the plans is now taking place. It ends on Wednesday, November 16, before a final decision is made on the proposal.
If approvied, it is proposed the branch would move in March.
