Mansfield man's court bill for fight outside pub

Jonathan Taylor, 32, of Eakring Road, accepted he had committed a public order offence and was convicted of threatening behaviour after a trial on May 23.

Robert Carr, prosecuting, said Taylor was denied entry to the pub at around 11.45pm on Saturday, November 28, because doorman David Keeling thought he was too drunk.

The pub’s CCTV captured the big scuffle that ensued, which saw two off-duty police officers from Derbyshire restrain Taylor on the ground.

The court heard he had no previous convictions, but had received cautions for a public order offence and two common assaults in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Cheryl Nisbet, of the probation service, said: “He had been into town with his partner.

“It was the first time in a year he had been out. He accepts he had been drinking but says he was not drunk.”

She described him as a hard-working family man who was on 24-hour call and worked up to 60 hours a week.

Magistrates fined him £805, and ordered him to pay costs of £200 and a victim surcharge of £80.

He must also pay compensation of £50 to the doorman.
